About the Artist

Oscar Chelimsky, 1923-2010

Oscar Chelimsky studied art at Cooper Union College in New York, and then attended the Hans Hoffman School of Art. He continued his studies in Paris in 1948, right after World War II, thanks to the GI bill. There he was a founding member of the Gallerie Huit. He exhibited in the Gallerie Jeanne Bucher, and had many shows in museums around Europe. In 1971, he returned to the United States and settled in the Washington DC area. There, he continued to paint and chaired the painting department of the Maryland School of Art and Design. He resided in Cleveland from 2006 until his death in 2010.

The purpose of this Website is to allow others to enjoy a collection of works that span realism, cubism, action painting, positive and negative space, signs, and the big open form.
